About Anibal Vallejo

Anibal Vallejo studied fine arts at the University of Antioquia, followed by fashion at the Colombian College of Design, Medellín. Subsequently he settled in Europe where he refined his skills in fine art and painting in England, Spain and Italy. He then moved to New York City, where he worked with a number of New York’s most renowned Art Galleries. During this time, he participated in extensive exhibitions with large museums and exhibited in acclaimed International Art Fairs.

Vallejo’s work is a stimulating yet seamless integration of a variety of different forms and techniques. His training within fine arts and fashion design has made his style uniquely complex yet daringly minimalist. His interest and interaction of both elements have enabled him to explore elements outside the traditional realm of painting. He encompasses a heterogeneity of media, most notably fine thread, fabrics, delicate jewelry and hand embroidery, which amalgamate to create a truly unique essence of invigorating texture; the result is a distinctively interactive experience with the viewer.

Vallejo has also become celebrated for using materials that have been converted into plastic elements along with oil, graphite and charcoal. His refined application of fine thread acquires an articulate manipulation of force yet delicate precision. His work draws on everyday occurrences but in a bittersweet innocence yet often candidly honest. He infuses these images with a little touch of Colombia’s Magical Realism; adding fantastical elements of flora and fauna with an unconventional prop integrated into the ordinary yet somewhat twisted mundane. His language of art tells a story of his unique education within fine arts and fashion design and shows further inspiration from minimalism, conceptualism and a contemporary rendering of figurative expressionism.
