About Ane Alfeirán

Born and raised in México City (Ciudad de México), Ane Alfeirán currently resides in Hong Kong. A self-taught artist with a global perspective, Ane works across diverse mediums and cultures, responding critically to her changing environment as well as seeking to articulate a complex internal reality. A finalist in the 2019 Spectrum Miami Art Fair Competition, her works have been previously exhibited in the US, Hong Kong, Mexico, Singapore and London, and she has also been published in magazines like Hypebeast, Vice, Ghasp Media in Hong Kong, and Resident and Jimon in New York. Ane is also a teacher and a curator, having led workshops in Mexico and Hong Kong.

Driven by spontaneity and intuition, Ane’s paintings utilise experimental compositions that combine striking colours, bold line movements and raw, fragmented facial features. Emotions, experiences, dreams, graffiti and music are all crucial elements that inspire her, manifesting in works that draw upon the subconscious as its primary subject matter. Her works evoke early experiments by Cubist masters like Picasso, combined with a contemporary sensibility that revels in brilliant colours and fragmented brushstrokes.

Ane’s most recent series of works layer both painting and drawing, her semi-figurative elements combined with a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors and bold texture create an instantly magnetic visual experience for the viewer. Her new collection also explores the concept of humans becoming “slaves to technology” an increasingly important issue that addresses the constant pressure of always being on, plugged in, stimulated and in a constant state of self-presentation. She addresses the perplex circumstances of living in a fast-paced modern society, where face-to-face inter-action is less and less frequent. We live in and through our screens, and we’re always plugged in, always distracted and living virtual lives through social media.
