Carla Talopp France, b. 1981

Overview

A multidisciplinary artist, Carla Talopp finds the expression of her creative force in nature. Her canvases, monumental in scale and imbued with a profound attention to the living world, appear as metaphors for an inner vitality that is constantly in motion and renewing itself. Punctuated by the consistent use of vibrant colours and the precision of their composition, her works bear witness to the inexhaustible richness of the plant world, which the artist explores in its every movement. Talopp’s canvases, both abstract and figurative, are imbued with the identity of the various creative spaces she inhabits. The colours, used almost symbolically, highlight the uniqueness of a place and its environment, just as the choice of format testifies to the singular immensity of the living world. Devoting her entire being—both physical and emotional—to the creative process, Talopp's works invite us to plunge into a vertiginous dreamlike universe where dream and reality intertwine.

Following in the footsteps of Sonia Delaunay, Kiki Smith, and Sheila Hicks, whose work has pushed the boundaries between art and craft, her practice also extends into the fields of drawing and ceramics, which she uses to explore the creative gesture as a multisensory experience and a sensitive expression of the relationships between humanity and the rest of the living world.

Her work has been the subject of several solo exhibitions in public institutions in France and abroad, such as the China Academy of Art (China) and the French Embassy (Washington, D.C., USA). She frequently participates in solo and group exhibitions at various galleries, such as the Joanne Artman Gallery (New York/Laguna Beach, USA), the Larock Granoff Gallery (Paris, France), the Baudoin Lebon Gallery (Paris, France), the Planète Rouge Gallery (Paris, France), and the Postal Museum (Paris, France).
