About Kiat

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, Kiat began exploring more resourceful, innovative ways of creating art due to limited access and restrictions during lockdown. This led him to create works using a hybrid technique of digital and analogue mediums – inspired by the same approach with which he would resample material to make music. “As a music producer, I sample sounds to create new tracks. In my practice, I also resample elements from my painting, at times recomposing them digitally."

“MUSICAL INSPIRATION PLAYS A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN MY ARTWORKS. I AM DRAWN TO AFFINITIES THAT SOUND AND COLOUR CAN SHARE, AND HOW THEY OPERATE LIKE FREQUENCIES AND WAVEFORMS, CONTRIBUTING A CERTAIN COMPLEXITY AND NUANCE TO PAINTING.”

The adventurous themes in his work are closely linked to his fascination with emotions, sound, frequencies and themes of freedom. His freeform approach has led him to develop work across various mediums – from painting on walls and canvases, to music for dance floors, theatrical stages and art installations, to commissioned pieces that blur the line between art and design for brands and cultural institutions.
