CARLA TALOPP -
Artitude presents a glimpse into the world of French artist Carla Talopp through a selection of works spanning both canvas and fabric.
This Online Viewing Room offers a closer look at Talopp’s distinctive approach to colour, material and movement, with particular attention to her works on antique fabric, one of the artist’s signature surfaces. Left unstretched, the fabric retains its natural movement and flow, becoming an active element within the composition and reflecting Talopp’s deep connection to nature. Alongside these works, paintings on canvas reveal how the same expressive language of gesture, colour and organic form extends across her wider practice.
Together, the works offer a preview of Talopp’s ongoing dialogue between material, movement and the natural world, which will continue in our upcoming exhibition, The Wealth of Nature, on view from 11 September to 25 October 2026.

Carla's vibrant colours and her precision of composition bear witness to the inexhaustible richness of the plant world. The colours, used almost symbolically, highlight the uniqueness of a place and its environment, just as the choice of format testifies to the singular immensity of the living world. Devoting her entire being – both physical and emotional – to the creative process, Talopp's works invite us to plunge into a vertiginous dreamlike universe where dream and reality intertwine.

Colour is where each of Carla Talopp’s paintings begins. Working intuitively, she builds her compositions through successive layers, allowing colours to overlap, intensify and redirect the work. Before individual forms can be identified, the viewer first encounters the physical and emotional force of the palette. Scale determines how that encounter unfolds.

Nature appears in Talopp’s work as both abundant and vulnerable. Plants seem to grow beyond the canvas, colours shift and blend into one another, and animals emerge as quiet presences within the composition. Each painting suggests a living environment in a continuous state of growth, dissolution and renewal. For Talopp, beauty and fragility are not opposing conditions. They exist together within the natural world.
