About Santiago Tabares Botero
Santiago Tabares, a contemporary Colombian visual artist from Medellín, is one of the most diverse, yet youngest artists represented by ARTitude Galería. He specialises in multiple visual art techniques: photography, sculpture, painting, digital illustration and assembly, with a keen interest in the rapid impact of technology and futurism.
From a very young age, Santiago has shown a deep interest in the arts. When he turned 15 he started exploring different styles and techniques with the anticipation of discovering the style that best defined him as an artist and one that would become instantly recognizable, as his visual identity. He soon realized his fascination with technology, science section and the enigma of the cyber world. He became captivated with the aesthetics hidden within the disorder generated by the wiring of computers, the texture of oxidized metal and, most of all, the connection between technology and the human body and mind.
Santiago, at the age of 22, remains passionate about technology, currently researching artificial intelligence and human bioengineering, and it led to an epiphany that suddenly changed his perspective of people and himself: one morning he asked himself the question, “what makes people unique?” In short, he asked, “what makes me... me? Our bodies or our deepest feelings, our soul...” Then he began to look at the wiring and the hard drive of computers and compared them to the human body: the biological neutron model, human nervous system and the brain. The more complex the technology the more curious Santiago became. He used his curiosity to engage in this unique form of art, entitled “Cyberpunk.” His style, motivated by the future of technology, shows elements of surrealism and magical realism, bold vivid lines, fantastic neon colours and eye-catching futuristic imagery. He is constantly pushing the boundaries with his cutting edge ‘Cyberpunk’ imagery and encouraging his viewers to see the world from another perspective, a perspective where biotechnology rules over our bodies.
