About José Cacho

Deep Art Layered Resin
Deep art layered resin is a technique that Cacho began improving at the end of 2019 after being inspired by the work of Marc Schroff. His layered resin consists of accumulated layers of resin, paint and other materials. Each application takes a painstakingly amount of time to dry, after which the next layer is applied. Between each step, Cacho sands the surface of each layer, ensuring the adherence of the materials for some of his works can take up to 60 layers to achieve the stunning depth and volume required for the rich vivacity and serene tapestry of lavishly crafteoo colors, beautifully executed geometric patterns and seamless finish you see in the final layered resin of his art. This painstaking process can take up to 80 days but this stunning outcome lies somewhere between a painting and a sculpture with its own unique personality, story and unprecedented depth. Each piece of Cacho,s work has a strong story, a collage of symbols and meanings.

Symbolism of Text & Stencils
The simplicity of the black, white and grey visage in a stencil like creation heighten the contrast between the subjects faces and the complex intricate delicacy of the mosaic patterns, creating an almost deteriorating complexion. His stencil-like technique gives his work a fresh contemporary and urban feel. The contrast is seamlessly yet meticulously crafted and gives the work a dynamic layer. The use of text in Cacho’s work is not a new philosophy, it has been used for many years by various different artists but in a different technique. It is bold, gives his work an extra dimension and compliments the explicit message he portrays. The text acts as another tool for Cacho to express himself. He, himself is an avid writer and his love for writing not only parallels his love for visual arts but heightens the experience for those that view it. Often, when viewing visual designs or pictorial images, the human mind will translate these images into a vocabulary of words and in turn, when one reads or listens to words, the mind will translate these words into mental images that give meaning to these words. The words, despite being extensive, are subtle and are discreetly processed by the viewers eyes. The technique, of clustering words together without spaces, punctuation or accents are uniformly applied with a wax stencil, in a similar tone and shade, as not to distract from the painting but enhance the depth and aesthetic visual sense. The congregation of words adds to the intrigue and mystique of the work: hinting at the fantastic complexity of life and the experiences we all encounter. Many artists believe it is not their role to explain the work they create, and some of the mystery and intrigue should be left by the viewer to interpret. Cacho is very much in line with this thinking. He believes one should have the opportunity to explain his thought process, however, one should always be given the gift to interpret these explanations as they wish.
